ABOUT ME
Why I am a life coach
Hi! I'm Kathryn and my former professional life is 16+ years in Human Resources.
I've always enjoyed the positive aspects of working so closely with many different people, sometimes in challenging situations. But some time ago I realised I needed a shift of direction. And I too experienced the feelings of fear, doubt and imposter syndrome that can derive from thoughts outside our comfort zone. I've experienced the power and positivity of coaching myself and have made significant changes in my life. I hope I can help you achieve that, too!
My passion now is helping others, particularly women during the various stages of motherhood, to not allow their fears to hold them back, or their lack of confidence, feeling lost, stuck or indecisiveness to overwhelm them. I work with my clients to reassert their sense of purpose and identity to thrive personally and professionally and to be free to pursue their possible with confidence and clarity.
'Where there is hope, there is always an opportunity to create positive change
and embrace new possibilities.'
Kathryn, The Lost Mum® Coach
more about me as a life coach
I successfully completed the Diploma in Transformational Coaching with the respected and recognised Animas Centre for Coaching during 2019/ 2020.
I'm fascinated by the power, capability and drawbacks of the human brain and our thinking. I've studied coaching with neuroscience, positive intelligence, group coaching and I'm also drawn to the language people use and what they mean by it. In my coaching, I am particularly interested in how all these things can help people understand themselves better and realise greater possibilities for themselves in their lives.
My coaching style is relaxed, calm and informal. My aim is for all my clients to feel comfortable with me as their coach in a confidential and non-judgemental space so that the focus can be on gaining clarity, understanding and ultimately a positive way forward.
sharing my stories as a 'lost mum'®:
I've been the lost mum in this picture on more than one occasion!
When my daughter was just a few months old and my husband had returned to work, I was staring out the kitchen window sterilising bottles whilst my daughter napped, still in my dressing gown.
I felt an overwhelming thought of "What am I doing?! I used to do a meaningful job, and now it's a 'win' if I'm dressed before 11 am!" And of course, the moment I thought it I felt ridiculous and embarrassed. I had a new baby to look after, a much longed for baby, and here I was sounding sorry for myself.
But I've since found out that experiencing such thoughts is not a novelty for new mums.
my experience of life coaching
I built my whole career in my 20s and 30s around HR. And then I started to wonder, what else? Is this right for me anymore? Then I'd feel the fear about leaving what I knew behind and stepping into the unknown. But the thoughts were still there, and gaining momentum!
It's not been a totally straight forward journey (in reality, when is it?). But I have made significant changes in my life. I've left my former career (and comfort zone) and I've moved from the commuter edges of London to a new life in Devon. Of course there are things I miss, but there are so many things I've gained. I love being by the coast for one! Coaching was a key part of my thinking process to get here. So, please believe me when I say if I can make positive changes, so can you, whether they are big or small or involve a move to a bungalow in the countryside or not!
